How Lego Therapy at Supportive Counselling Supports Emotional Well-being

Therapy does not always begin with spoken conversation. For many people, especially those who find verbal expression difficult or overwhelming, it begins with something familiar, grounding and creative. Lego Therapy at Supportive Counselling offers a hands on, imaginative way to explore emotions, relationships, communication and self-expression in a safe and structured environment. If you’d like to explore the different types of support available, you can take a look at our services here.

Lego Therapy is suitable for children, teenagers and adults. Whether we are building together or working individually, the process naturally encourages curiosity, reflection and connection. The sensory and tactile qualities of Lego can help regulate the nervous system, making it easier to explore thoughts and feelings at a comfortable pace. Many clients appreciate the predictability and structure of Lego, while also enjoying the freedom to create, experiment and express themselves without pressure.

How Lego Therapy at Supportive Counselling Supports Emotional Wellbeing

Lego Therapy provides a gentle and accessible way to explore emotional experiences without relying solely on words. The process of building can help clients express feelings symbolically, experiment with solutions and develop emotional awareness in a calm and grounded way. If you have questions about whether Lego Therapy might be right for you, you can make contact with the team here.

Lego Therapy at Supportive Counselling for Communication and Relationship Skills

Joint building activities encourage cooperation, turn-taking, shared problem solving and perspective taking. These skills can strengthen communication, support relationship building and help clients feel more confident interacting with others in a structured and supportive environment.

A Neuroaffirming Approach to Lego Therapy at Supportive Counselling

Lego Therapy offers a sensory-friendly and neuro-affirming space that supports neurodivergent clients who benefit from structure, predictability and hands-on engagement. The familiar nature of Lego can reduce anxiety and create a sense of safety, allowing clients to explore thoughts and feelings at their own pace.

Building Confidence Through Lego Therapy at Supportive Counselling

Completing a build, expressing an idea visually or working through a challenge can strengthen confidence and personal agency. Lego Therapy encourages clients to recognise their strengths, celebrate progress and experience success in a playful and meaningful way.

Lego Therapy at Supportive Counselling for Adults and Children

This type of therapy is not only for children. Many adults also find comfort and grounding in making things with their hands. In addition, the structure of Lego can offer a clear sense of safety. The creative process can also open doors to insight and emotional expression. As a result, some feelings become easier to explore than they would through words alone.

(she/her)

Director & Lead Counsellor and Psychotherapist | York | Children, Adolescents & Adults | Face-to-Face, Online & Telephone

I’m Kat, Director and Lead Counsellor & Psychotherapist, supporting clients through their journey at Supportive Counselling Ltd . I work with children, young people, and adults, offering counselling that adapts to the individual rather than following a fixed model.

Many clients come to me after therapy that didn’t feel right for them. Often, this is because the approach didn’t fit who they are or how they communicate. For this reason, I prioritise creating a calm and supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and able to engage at their own pace.

My work is neuro‑affirming and trauma‑informed. In particular, I specialise in neurodivergence, trauma, and sleep‑related difficulties, including nightmares and night terrors. Throughout my work, I collaborate closely with clients and adapt my approach to their needs, with the aim of offering counselling that feels safe, respectful, and meaningful, especially for those who have found traditional therapy difficult to access or engage with.

Counsellor | York | Adults | Face-to-Face, Online & Telephone

My counselling journey began through my own experience as a client, where I came to see how powerful it can be to feel genuinely heard and accepted. That experience continues to shape how I work today.

I trained with York Learning before completing a postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Counselling at York St John University, and I have been working with clients since January 2024, supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences.

I offer a calm, supportive space where you can slow down, talk things through, and feel heard without judgement. Therapy with me is steady and unhurried, and we go at your pace, helping you make sense of things and find a more grounded way forward.

Many people value having time each week that’s just for them, away from the pressures of work and family life.
