Supportive Counselling Ltd
Supportive Counselling Ltd offers a flexible, client‑led approach to therapy that centres on the individual rather than a fixed model. Instead of following rigid agendas or prescriptive techniques, sessions remain responsive and collaborative, allowing space to explore what matters most at a pace that feels right. Based in York, we offer in‑person as well as online and telephone counselling across the UK.
Often, people arrive at Supportive Counselling Ltd after experiences of therapy that did not feel helpful. In many cases, clients describe feeling unheard, rushed, or constrained by approaches that failed to reflect their needs, communication style, or lived experience. Because of this, we recognise that therapy is not one‑size‑fits‑all. Meaningful change tends to grow through safety, trust, and an approach that adapts to the person, not the other way around.
At Supportive Counselling Ltd, the focus is on creating a calm and respectful environment where clients feel listened to and understood. Rather than being guided by what a therapeutic model expects, sessions are shaped by what clients bring. As a result, this way of working can be especially supportive for people who are neurodivergent, have experienced trauma, or have found traditional therapy difficult to access or engage with.
With lived experience of neurodivergence at the heart of our work, the practice reflects a deep understanding of what supports genuine engagement in therapy. At the same time, we remain mindful of what can unintentionally create barriers. Ultimately, the aim is to offer counselling that feels accessible, thoughtful, and responsive to the whole person.

Director & Lead Counsellor and Psychotherapist | York | Children, Adolescents & Adults | Face-to-Face, Online & Telephone
I’m Kat, Director and Lead Counsellor & Psychotherapist, supporting clients through their journey at Supportive Counselling Ltd . I work with children, young people, and adults, offering counselling that adapts to the individual rather than following a fixed model.
Many clients come to me after therapy that didn’t feel right for them. Often, this is because the approach didn’t fit who they are or how they communicate. For this reason, I prioritise creating a calm and supportive space where clients feel heard, understood, and able to engage at their own pace.
My work is neuro‑affirming and trauma‑informed. In particular, I specialise in neurodivergence, trauma, and sleep‑related difficulties, including nightmares and night terrors. Throughout my work, I collaborate closely with clients and adapt my approach to their needs, with the aim of offering counselling that feels safe, respectful, and meaningful, especially for those who have found traditional therapy difficult to access or engage with.

Counsellor | York | Adults | Face-to-Face, Online & Telephone
My counselling journey began through my own experience as a client, where I came to see how powerful it can be to feel genuinely heard and accepted. That experience continues to shape how I work today.
I trained with York Learning before completing a postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Counselling at York St John University, and I have been working with clients since January 2024, supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences.

Many people value having time each week that’s just for them, away from the pressures of work and family life.
