About Supportive Counselling Ltd
Kat Scurr, Counsellor & Psychotherapist
Supportive Counselling Ltd was created from real lived experience.
Through personal experience, Kat recognised that traditional therapy does not always meet the needs of people who think, process and experience the world differently. Too often, therapy can feel overwhelming, misunderstood, or not designed with the individual in mind.
With over 20 years of lived experience, specialist training, and ongoing development in neurodivergence, alongside formal counselling and psychotherapy training, Supportive Counselling Ltd offers a more tailored and thoughtful approach.
Every detail matters. The counselling space has been carefully designed to reduce sensory overwhelm and create a calm, supportive environment. Kat continues to train only with professionals who bring genuine lived experience or deep understanding, ensuring the work remains authentic and relevant
Counsellor in York supporting clients through their journey at Supportive Counselling Ltd. We work with children, young people, and adults, offering counselling that adapts to the individual rather than following a fixed model.
Our work is neuro‑affirming and trauma‑informed. In particular, Kat specialises in neurodivergence, trauma, and sleep‑related difficulties, including nightmares and night terrors.

Counselling Services
Adult Therapy
Many people want a calm space to make sense of thoughts, feelings, or experiences that have become difficult to carry alone. This space offers time to pause, reflect, and understand what’s happening beneath the surface. Support focuses on helping life feel steadier and more manageable day‑to‑day.
Children's Therapy
Young people often benefit from a gentle space where they can express themselves in ways that feel natural to them. Sessions adapt to their interests, communication style, and comfort level. The aim is to help them feel understood, settled, and supported as they navigate their world.
Neurodivergence Therapy
Many people want support that respects difference and honours how their mind and body naturally work. Sessions adapt to sensory needs, communication preferences, and the pace that feels right for you. The focus is on validation, understanding, and creating space where you don’t have to mask.
Creative Therapy
Some experiences are easier to explore through images, colour, movement, or play rather than words alone. This approach offers a flexible way to express feelings that are hard to describe directly. You don’t need any artistic skill; the process is about exploration, not performance.
Trauma & Anxiety Therapy
Overwhelm, alertness, and unsettled feelings can build up in ways that affect daily life. Sessions focus on grounding, safety, and helping the body find a steadier rhythm. You won’t be pushed to revisit anything before you’re ready; the pace is always guided by you.
Sleep Therapy
Many people struggle with nights that feel restless, disrupted, or difficult to settle into. This approach explores the patterns, emotions, and nervous system responses that shape your experience of rest. The aim is to support calmer evenings and more restorative sleep over time.

FAQ's!

What happens in the free consultation chat?
During the free consultation chat, we talk about what has made you consider counselling and what you’re hoping to get from support. This helps us understand whether counselling feels right for you and which approach may suit you best. You’re welcome to ask as many questions as you like, and there’s no pressure to book a session straight away. You can take your time to think things over and decide at your own pace.
If you’d like to explore different ways of working before the call, you can learn more about face‑to‑face sessions, online counselling, telephone counselling, or one‑to‑one support.
What do I do if I need to cancel?
If you need to cancel a session, it’s helpful to let the counsellor know as soon as you can. Cancellations made more than 24 hours before the session time are not charged. When a cancellation is made with less than 24 hours’ notice, the full session fee still applies, as the time has been set aside for you.
If you’re thinking about rescheduling, you can explore different ways to meet, including face‑to‑face sessions, online counselling, telephone counselling, or one‑to‑one support, to see what feels most manageable.
