Kat Scurr MBACP, Dip.Couns, CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People, Accredited Rewind Trauma Therapist (she/her)
Many clients come to me after trying other therapies that didn’t work for them. Often, this is because the approach didn’t fit who they are. As a result, at Supportive Counselling Ltd, I create a space where clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported in a way that feels right for them.
My areas of specialism include neurodivergence, trauma, and sleep‑related difficulties, including nightmares and night terrors.
Counselling for Children and Adults
In practice, I support children, adolescents and adults with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties. At the heart of my work, there is warmth, curiosity and collaboration, adapting to each client rather than expecting them to adapt to therapy.
Whether working with a child, a neurodivergent adult, or someone navigating trauma or sleep support, I am a sleep therapist. I aim to offer therapy that feels safe, validating and meaningful.
Specialisms – Neurodivergence, Trauma and Sleep
For over 20 years, I have specialised in neurodivergence, supported by lived and real experience, allowing me to offer neurodivergent counselling. In particular, I work with neurodivergent children and adults in a neuro‑affirming and flexible way, including those exploring a diagnosis or self‑understanding.
Alongside this, I also specialise in trauma, particularly its long‑term effects and how it is held within the body. I am an accredited Rewind Trauma Therapist; my trauma‑informed work supports clients to explore experiences gently, without re‑traumatisation, at a pace that feels manageable.
In addition, I work with sleep‑related difficulties, including sleep disruption linked to anxiety, trauma and neurodivergence. Ultimately, sleep support can significantly impact emotional well‑being for both children and adults. I also offer CBT-I for insomnia treatment as part of a 6-week Deep Sleep Reset programme. Importantly, I work in a way that adapts to the individual, supporting clients at their own pace.
Professional Background and Experience
Before focusing solely on private practice, I managed a charity counselling project, mentored trainee counsellors, and worked with complex presentations across the NHS and charity sector. Alongside this, I bring a strong professional focus in neurodivergence, developed through years of dedicated study, specialist training, and continued professional development.
Additionally, I spent several years as a Samaritan, including working within the prison service and supporting individuals experiencing suicidal distress. I am a registered member of the BACP and an accredited member of IARTT, reflecting my commitment to maintaining high professional, ethical, and clinical standards within my work.
These experiences, combined with extensive training, professional practice, and personal insight, continue to shape my work, particularly my ability to sit alongside people in distress with compassion and understanding without an agenda.
My Therapeutic Approach
My approach is integrative but predominantly humanistic and person‑centred. Rather than following a prescribed structure, sessions are organic and responsive, shaped around the client. Throughout my work, I collaborate openly, offering compassion, honesty and validation in a calm, non‑judgmental space.
