LGBTQIA+ Affirming Counselling
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Counselling
At Supportive Counselling, we offer an LGBTQIA+ affirming counselling space where sexual orientation, gender identity, and relationship diversity are respected and validated.
We recognise that many LGBTQIA+ people seek counselling not because of who they are, but because of the impact of stigma, misunderstanding, discrimination, or the pressure to hide or explain themselves. Counselling here is not about fixing or questioning identity — it is about supporting you as a whole person.
Our affirming approach includes:
- Respect for self‑defined identity, language, and pronouns
- No assumptions about gender, sexuality, relationships, or life paths
- An understanding of minority stress and its impact on mental health
- Space to explore identity, relationships, family, and belonging at your pace
- A counselling relationship grounded in consent, collaboration, and choice
We work with people across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, including those who are:
- Questioning or exploring identity
- Coming out or choosing not to
- Navigating relationships, family dynamics, or community belonging
- Living with the emotional impact of rejection, invisibility, or past harm
We also recognise that LGBTQIA+ experiences often intersect with neurodivergence, disability, culture, faith, and trauma, and we aim to work in a way that honours these intersections rather than separating them.
If you have questions about how counselling works, want to check whether this feels like the right space for you, or need adjustments to feel safer or more comfortable, you are very welcome to get in touch.
