Vicki Shield
Counsellor | York | Adults | Face-to-Face, Online & Telephone
I am an integrative, relational counsellor working with adults. I offer a warm, supportive space where you can talk openly about whatever is bringing you to therapy, whether that’s anxiety, low mood, bereavement, relationship difficulties, life changes, self-esteem, addiction, domestic abuse or a feeling that something isn’t quite right.

Vicki Shield MBACP, MA
I am particularly interested in how our early experiences can shape the way we relate to ourselves and others, and I enjoy working with people who want to understand themselves and their patterns more deeply.
I have a particular interest in ADHD, autism and neurodivergence, bringing lived, professional and academic experience to this area. Alongside supporting autistic and ADHD young people in education, my research explored the relationship between ADHD and attachment. I enjoy working with adults who are exploring their neurodivergence, adjusting to a diagnosis, or beginning to wonder whether ADHD or autism may be part of their experience. I am also interested in supporting parents and partners of neurodivergent people.
Alongside this, I have a special interest in supporting women through perimenopause, menopause and midlife. Many people find themselves feeling overwhelmed, questioning their identity or carrying the mental load of looking after everyone else. Therapy can offer valuable space to reflect, make sense of these experiences and reconnect with yourself.
People often tell me they find me approachable and easy to talk to. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what to say. Together, we can explore whatever is important to you in a way that feels safe, supportive and at a pace that works for you.
Areas I can support with include anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship difficulties, domestic abuse, addiction, self-esteem, shame, suicidal thoughts, ADHD, autism, neurodivergence, identity, sexuality, perimenopause, menopause, midlife transitions and attachment-related difficulties.
