Dom Tooze
My counselling journey began through my own experience as a client, where I came to see how powerful it can be to feel genuinely heard and accepted. That experience continues to shape how I work today. I trained with York Learning before completing a postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Counselling at York St John University, and I have been working with clients since January 2024, supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences.

About Dom (he/they)
I work in a neuro‑affirming way and do not see neurodivergence as something to be fixed. My background in education and charity work has shaped how I meet people first and foremost as people, while staying attentive to their lived experience and their relationship with neurodiversity. Where it feels helpful, I may gently draw on my own experience of neurodivergence without making assumptions, and I adapt how I work so that therapy fits the individual rather than the other way around.
My approach is person‑centred and integrative, meaning I tailor how we work together to what you need in the moment. I see you as the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as we make sense of things together. Clients can expect a steady, supportive, and down‑to‑earth space where they are met with warmth, honesty, and respect. I listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and gently challenge when it feels helpful, always with care and with humour where appropriate.
My work is shaped by a strong interest in connection and the ways our relationships influence our sense of self and belonging. I’m mindful of how marginalisation and privilege shape lived experience, including within the therapy room, and I aim to hold this with care and without assumption. I also pay close attention to the emotional impact of environmental awareness, eco‑anxiety, and wider social and geopolitical uncertainty, and I support people in making sense of the grief, worry, and uncertainty that can arise in response to these realities.
Outside of the therapy room, I value spending time in nature, running, and creativity. I enjoy collaborative, imaginative group games, including Dungeons & Dragons, which reflect my interest in connection and shared meaning.
